In My Lifetime

I was reading a news story yesterday about some scientists who were working on a thing called "The Grid" that is supposed to replace the Web. Okay, we'll see, but there was something in the article that stunned me. The article said the Web was inventing in 1989!

Wow! I was in my late 20's before we had the Web? It seems like it's been forever! I do remember when AOL opened up a gateway to this thingy called the web, but even then it was so hard to find stuff.

Last week was the 35th anniversary of the first cell phone call. I was in junior high then.

These things have me wondering what other life-altering changes have occurred in my relatively short life. I plan on posting some of those things in the coming weeks.

I think about this kind of stuff a lot. My mom died in 1981, and I like to name off all the things that have changed since then, that she would be so surprised about. The cell phone, for instance. Never would she have dreamed of talking to someone on the phone while riding down the road! LOL

Wes was a computer programmer in the Air Force when the internet began. He got us "online" at home in 1994, and there was nothing much there besides some chat rooms. Even as late as 1996, there was very little online for Christian ladies, then it just boomed!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to say. Love this kind of stuff!

We had AOL and Compuserve in 1994 and I frequented the homeschool forums. It's unbelievable how much has changed in a short amount of time.
