Books

I'm an English major at the University of Illinois Springfield and it goes without saying that I read a lot! Some books I read are not worth revisiting. Sometimes I discover a jewel. This semester I'm taking a Children's Literature class and we just read a book that I count as one of my new favorites. The book is A Long Way From Chicago by Richard Peck. It is supposed to be juvenile fiction, but I loved it. It is the story of two kids who spend a week with their grandmother in rural Illinois every summer and the book covers eight of those visits. It is hilarious and touching. I am a grandmother now and though nothing like the grandmother in the book (I hope) I really hope my grandkids remember me as fondly.
