My Lord Knows the Way

Last night, Beau was having trouble falling asleep. I called him to my lap and he lay there for a bit while I rubbed his back and sang to him. (This is when Nana skills are necessary.)

I sang some of the same songs I have sung to him since he was born, some of the same songs I used to sing to his mother when I would scratch her back while she fell asleep.

I sang Sunday School songs. The songs I learned when I wasn't even as old as he is now. Songs that comfort my heart to this day.

My Lord knows the way through the wilderness,
All I have to do is follow.
My Lord knows the way through the wilderness,
All I have to do is follow.
Strength for today is mine all the way
And all that I need for tomorrow.
My Lord knows the way through the wilderness,
All I have to do is follow.

AND

He's able! He's able! I know He's able!
I know my Lord is able to carry me through.
He's able! He's able! I know He's able!
I know my Lord is able to carry me through.
He heals the broken hearted,
And He sets the captive free.
He makes the lame to walk again,
And he makes the blind to see.
He's able! He's able! I know He's able!
I know my Lord is able to carry my through.

AND

When we walk with the Lord,
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way.
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey,
For there's no other way,
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

Beau fell asleep. I felt much better. It's a win-win.

I will sing

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,
I will sing, I will sing!
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,
I will sing of the mercies of Lord!
With my mouth will I make known
Thy faithfulness, Thy faithfulness!
With my mouth will I make known
Thy faithfulness to all generations!
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever,
I will sing of the mercies of the Lord!

"I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations."
Psalm 89:1

This is one of my all-time favorites

Many of you may not remember the days before cable and satellite and 100's of channels, but when I was young, we had one station that came in clear and one that came in fuzzy. On the clear station on Saturday afternoons, the Gospel Jubilee with the Happy Goodman Family came on. From the time I was 7 or 8 until I was a young teenager and we got cable, every Saturday at 4 pm I sat down on the floor in front of the TV for an hour and watched and sang with Vestal.

This was recorded not long after her husband, Howard Goodman, went home to be with the Lord and I can't watch it without smiling and crying at the same time.

Just a side note, the piano player is my third cousin. We never met, but he is included in the family book that another cousin is compiling.
